Majority of visitors who come to Rwanda, D.R Congo, and Uganda appreciate the picturesque views of rural setting and seeing the beautiful countryside! Actually, most tourists do link a farm visit with other visits like cultural performances, sightseeing, trekking, historical sites and other attractions.
The significance of Agro-Tourism programs is considered as a useful tool of environmental conservation, beautification, and source of livelihood and also to reduce the never ending human-wildlife conflict. However, farmers continue to immensely enjoy and benefit from normal farming activities by educating visitors who are non-farmers how agriculture is actually done at the same time they sell the fresh farm produce directly to consumers.
We therefore promote agro tourism development for its great potential to farmers, rural communities and tourism operators. Farmers benefit by expanding farm operations and production, improving farm revenue streams and farm recreation opportunities. From the community perspective, it generates additional revenue for local businesses and services from tourists. It also increases protection of rural landscapes and natural environments for tourists and residents.
Tourism operators also benefit by diversifying the mix of tourism products and services available to visitors. Agro Tourism also increases season length during off-peak business periods.
